William Henry Harrison was born into a wealthy plantation family heavily integrated in Virginian and national politics. Harrison's fierce patriotic spirit led to his service on the Western Frontier. Under General "Mad Anthony" Wayne, Harrison rose to the position of aide-de-camp. In this role Harrison became familiar with the Native American lifestyles and fighting tactics while learning effective negotiation tactics.
